Baker Racing Through Generations at Burdekin

In the heart of Queensland’s racing scene, Brisbane based Brett Baker #124 is revving up for a maiden shot at this weekends iconic Burdekin Enduro. But for Brett, this isn’t just another race; it’s a legacy passed down through generations.

Brett’s passion for off-road racing was inherited from his father who was a pioneer in establishing the sport in his home state back in 1974 with the Queensland Off-Road Association.

From the sidelines to the driver’s seat, Brett’s journey began in 2017, navigating for Jason Keane in his class 7 Jeep, before the pair clinched the Australian ARB class title in 2018.

In 2020, Brett made the leap from navigator to driver, in a class 10 single-seat Racer. His love for the sport continued to grow, leading to his acquisition of a Class 1 machine originally crafted by Darren Payne from Tasmania.

With the expert assistance of Steven Orr from 4ORRS Racing, the car underwent a remarkable transformation, equipped with a VQ35 engine, and Albins Sequential 5-speed Gearbox.

“By far my proudest achievement to date was finishing 2nd in Class 1 at the 2022 Gundy 400 ARB Australian round, finishing only behind the seasoned veteran Brent Martin who was in the middle of his amazing run,” said Baker.

Behind every successful crew is a dedicated team of sponsors, from Blackflag Designs to John White Race Engines, MOTEC QLD and B&P Car Care, each playing a key role in Brett’s racing endeavors. Special mention goes to Wayne Elliott for his expertise in MOTEC, as well as Paul Brandt of Downsouth Motorsports Australia for his unwavering support.

“I’m really looking forward to Burdekin this weekend, after that I plan on competing at all of the Queensland long-course rounds, with potential ventures to Hillston, and perhaps even the Pines is on the cards.

But regardless of where Baker takes to the track, one thing will always remain constant: Brett races not to win, but to enjoy every moment.

The Burdekin Enduro, Round 3 of the 2024 AORRA Queensland Off Road Championship will be held this weekend over the 4th and 5th of May.
