Burdekin Offroaders very own Mitch Jones is an offroad prodigy poised to make a mark in coming years. Since the initiation of the Future Champions Class which was sparked by the Queensland AORRA committee and supported in full by AASA to provide an avenue for the development of 10 – 13 years olds in offroad racing, twelve year old Jones has been an integral part of its existence.
Jones who lives on the family farm outside of Ayr has been campaigning his Polaris 1000RZR machine over the last two seasons since debuting at Moranbah in 2021.
A local North Queensland track that he has found to his liking with three consecutive podium finishes.
“My favourite track is Moranbah, because the ruts get bigger and bigger and the jumps are also a challenge,” shared an excited Jones.
Inspired by American offroad legend Bryce Menzies, Mitch’s real hero is his father Ryan who launched his own racing career behind the wheel of a Can Am in 2018. Ryan who owns a remarkable four finishes from four attempts at the Finke Desert Race including a high of 8th in class last year, is now piloting an angry Class 11 Tatum at the QLD AORRA Enduro events.
The Jones’s just love their racing, and enjoy the time spent travelling the countryside together, even though Ryan’s home race the Burdekin 300 stands as his favourite event.
Mitch is not only a fledgling off-roader, he is also an eager motorbike rider, appreciates his time spent flying helicopters with dad on the farm, and loves nothing more then a juicy steak and a cold glass of red lemonade – especially on race weekend.
Offroad racing can only prosper with the Future Champions of Queensland rising through the ranks, and with a family like the Jones’s enjoying every aspect, young Mitch will continue to flourish.
