2020 has been a year of uncertainty throughout the world due to the pandemic, with the lack of ability to plan and organize events with any certainty.
In saying this Qld have escaped most restrictions allowing them to run a remarkably successful season, even running a successful trial of Rally Safe at the Goondiwindi event with competitors having adopted the system with a big tick of approval. Rally Safe has now been adopted for AORRA’s National Championship for 2021, giving the Championship the best safety system currently available to motorsport.
We have again grown our member base of both affiliated clubs, promoters, license and passbook holders to record numbers. This has shown that the sport of Off-Road Racing is still strong and getting stronger, with many competitors and cars ready to race the first chance they get.
Future Champions Class
AORRA has also implemented the new “Future Champions” class, under a trial period. This class has been considered to provide an avenue for the development of younger drivers in Off-Road Racing at an earlier age than is currently allowed (except NSW). If successful this will align it to other genres of racing, for example karting or speedway. The minimum age for drivers is 10 years old up to 13 years old, who must be accompanied by a co-driver aged 18 years or over, who hold a minimum of a current AASA State Off-Road License.
Our system of ensuring all parties are consulted for any rule change is working well, with many rule change applications having been received and voted on. We still feel that you the competitor, club or official should have a voice in how the sport moves forward.
Thank to all
I would like to thank clubs and their members for their support, valuable input and communication. This is what AORRA encourages to continue to shape and improve our sport into the future. I would also like to thank our outgoing board members for the contribution they have made, and welcome the new board who are about to contribute to this great sport we have.
Regards,
Ivan Robertson, Chairman AORRA
