Local chargers Talbot Cox and Craig King #16 have continued on their dream run at the Burdekin Enduro, the 2023 champions claimed Saturday honours after finishing today’s four long course laps with a 1.07min advantage.
On a dusty opening day at the Ayr Rifle Range layout, Cox finished with a comfortable lead over Club President Michael Marson and Michael Collins #32 who hold down second, and fellow North Queenslanders Drew Callander and Dan Den Elzen #99 a further 5.41mins adrift in third.
Well positioned for Burdekin silverware tomorrow is Class 8 Nissan Patrol campaigner Christian Trusz #816 who sits a mere 6.6 seconds behind Callander in fourth, ahead of Jimco newcomer Brad Belcher #22 who rounded out the top 5 outright on Saturday.
In the remaining class battles, Aaron Nicoll #665 holds a narrow lead in Class 6, with Tyler Youman #427, David Loughnan #104, Jan Kraaj #1104, who are separated by a mere 36 seconds, Kane Prechelt #694s, Michael Phillips #1024, and Mark Andrew #295 heading their respective classes.
Only 21 crews completed today’s four long course laps of the iconic Burdekin terrain, with some notables not to finish including Tony Fehlhaber #138, Kye Floyd #685, Brett Baker #124, Brett Glazebrook #668, Brayden Mifsud #1026, Steven Von Pein #422, Kye Camilleri #34, Ross Newman #6681, Chris Land #80, and Trent Callander #127.
Action resumes tomorrow morning at 8am for the final three laps, where come lunch time a 2024 Burdekin Enduro champion will be crowned.
