Sant Survives Battle of Burdekin

After one of the more chaotic editions of the RFC Burdekin Enduro in recent years, it was the husband-and-wife duo of James and Liz Sant #50 who survived the dusty conditions to secure a maiden outright victory.

An unfortunate alternator drama to overnight leader Tony Fehlhaber #138 on the final lap left the door ajar for Sant who capitalised, crossing four minutes ahead of the field in his V8 powered Racer.

Jimco campaigner Matthew Lawless #71 recorded arguably his finest result on Sunday; Lawless began the final day in fourth, holding it together over the final section to nail down second.

Running a close third after more than 200kms of racing was back-to-back Moranbah champion and Class 6 speedster Dan Dunn #614, finishing 53 seconds behind Lawless to round out the RFC Burdekin Enduro podium.

Class 6 runner-up Aaron Nicoll #665 continued his solid start to the season, leaping atop the QLD standings in his Can Am X3; Nicoll finished 35 seconds ahead of club president and Class 10 victor Michael Marson who completed the top five.

David Loughan #104 finished ten seconds behind Marson in sixth, with the Class 1 champion crossing ahead of Brett Baker #1026 and Aaron Phillis #80 in seventh and eighth.

Craig Krog #23 had the outright podium in his sights before a final lap flat tyre relegated him to ninth, with Class 6 podium sitter Dale McDonnell #688 performing strongly to round out the Burdekin Enduro top ten.

Local North Queenslander Ryan Jones #612s claimed Class 6s honours ahead of the First Lady home Anna Phillis #624s, and the ever-consistent Leila Chapman #616s in second and third.

In other results, Joshua Pile #762, Stephen Blake #6639, Shane Dale #251, and Michael Bertinazzi #451 all secured class wins, whilst Darren Angel #160, Tony Fehlhaber #138, and Jason Keane #1013 collected respective class silverware.

Exactly half of the thirty-eight crews completed full distance at Burdekin, with notables not to finish including two-time defending champion and prologue winner Talbot Cox #16, Drew #32 and Trent Callander #99, Dave Muir #433, Lochlan Waters #699, Chris Colborne #169, Brice Derrick #696, Steven Kildey #412, and Brent Storey #682.
